A trip around Hungary

Day 1

Arrival via Győr to Budapest. A short orientation tour in the city. After dinner possibility for a short visit in the illuminated capital, beautiful view from the Gellért Hill. Overnight at the hotel in Budapest.

Day 2

Sightseeing tour with visiting the historical monuments, like Heroes' Square, Parliament, Matthias Church, Fishermen's Bastion, Gellért Hill, Citadel, etc. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon excursion to the Danube Bend. First stop in Szentendre, village founded by Serbian colonies, today a romantic small town with picturesque streets and houses. Possibility to visit the Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum. Further on to Visegrád to enjoy a great view to the Danube. Dinner at the Restaurant Reneszánsz (furnished like in medieval times) where you can taste a real renaissance royal meal. Overnight at the hotel in Budapest.

Day 3

Trip to Gödöllő, visiting the baroque castle, which used to be the favourite place of Empress Elisabeth (Sissi). Proceed to Eger (Northern Hungary). Lunch at a wine cellar in the Valley of Beautiful Women. During the lunch a "Wine General" is elected. In the afternoon walking tour in Eger, with a visit to the Cathedral, the castle and the Library from the 18th century. Time to leisure. Overnight in Eger.

Day 4

Proceed via Miskolc and Szerencs (Rákóczi Castle from the 17th century) to Tokaj (Eastern Hungary). You visit one of the most famous wine cellars of Tokaj and have lunch with wine tasting. You get acquainted with this well-known wine territory of Hungary. Proceed to Debrecen (Eastern Hungary) to the biggest Presbyterian city of Hungary. Walking tour in the city. Overnight in Debrecen.

Day 5

Your tour leads to Hortobágy, to the real Hungarian Puszta. During a ride with the horse-drawn carriages you can see typical animals of the Puszta like Racka sheep, "Mangalian" pigs, Grey cattle etc. Visit in the Shepherds' Museum, horse show, possibility for riding. Welcome with Hungarian brandy and snack, afterwards a typical lunch with gipsy music in the oldest Csárda in Hortobágy. Proceed to Kecskemét (home town of the famous apricot brandy). Walking tour in the city with its beautiful art deco buildings. Further on to Kalocsa, the city of the paprika and the famous folkart. Overnight in Kalocsa.

Day 6

Walking tour in Kalocsa. Visiting the unique Paprika Museum and the Folk Art House. Organ concert in the Cathedral. Departure to Pécs with a short stop at Hajós, a small cellar village. After arrival to Pécs walking tour to visit the monuments from the Turkish times, the Basilica and the UNESCO World Heritage graves. Optional visit in the Zsolnay China Museum. Dinner and overnight in Pécs.

Day 7

Trip to the Lake Balaton. Visit the Benedictine Abbey on the peninsula of Tihany. Lunch in the region. Walking on the Lake Promenade in Balatonfüred. Visiting the Porcelanium (China Manufacture and Museum) in Herend. Farewell dinner with folklore programme and gipsy music. Overnight at the Lake Balaton.

Day 8

After breakfast leaving for Sopron (Western Hungary) and with a short tour you say good-bye to Hungary.
