1st day

Vienna - Bad Deutsch Altenburg cca. 58km

After meeting with your guide in Vienna the bicycle tour starts via Prater on the Danube Cycle Road. It goes down along the Danube on the Damm of Hubertus via Eckartsau (hunting lodge) to Petronell. In the old Roman city you can stop for a visit on the excavations of antique Carnuntum. Overnight close to Bad Deutsch Altenburg.

   

2nd day

Bad Deutsch Altenburg - Mosonmagyaróvár cca. 60km

Today your road goes via small vineyards along the Southern bank of the Danube to the fortress at the boarder in Hainburg down to the Austrian-Hungarian boarder. You arrive at Hungarian territory and continue your trip to Mosonmagyaróvár, a typical riverside city with 17 bridges. Overnight in Mosonmagyaróvár.

3rd day

Mosonmagyaróvár - Győr cca. 45 km

Today you travel between the two rives of the Danube. On the way you stop in Hédervár to visit a castle of the 16-18th centuries and in Lébény to see a roman-gothic church of the 13th century. Your target today is Győr, a big city at the meeting point of 3 rivers, Danube, Rába and Rábca. You go via small villages following the stream of the big river. People are glad to see tourists by bicycle. Overnight in Győr.

4th day

Győr - Tata cca. 60 km

You leave Győr (4th biggest city of the country with 2000 years of history) and your road goes via the Small Hungarian Plane to the Hills of Transdanubia. We suggest you to stop at the monumental Monastery of Pannonhalma, UNESCO World Heritage (10 km from Győr). Enjoy a great view from the Monastry. You can also stop in Bábolna and have a look at the famous horse stud next to the castle of Count Szapáry. On small side roads with minor traffic you can reach Tata in the afternoon. The city is situated between the hills of Vértes and Gerecse and it is known as the city of waters. On the banks of the Crystal Lake there is a castle (constructed in Copf-style) of the famous family Eszterházy. Overnight in Tata or in one of the nearby villages.

5th day

Tata - Esztergom cca. 55 km

Today you have to ride through the hills. But do not be afraid, these are the only ones in your tour. You take your time for riding up and down the hills, till you arrive to the Danube valley again. You ride via vineyards and small villages full of nice people and surprises, which make your tour even more enjoyable. On arriving in Esztergom you catch sight of the huge Basilica (the biggest Hungarian catholic church). Overnight in Esztergom or Visegrád.

6th day

Esztergom - Budapest cca. 68 km

After visiting Esztergom you ride along the famous Danube Bend, parallel with the Slovakian boarder to Visegrád. Important attractions of this sight are the ruins of a historical fortress upon the hill. You can have a wonderful view to the Danube Bend. Your next stop is the romantic city of Szentendre. You are going to be delighted. A paradise of museums, cafes and shopping possibilities. Before reaching the city, take the ferry to the parallel situated island and ride around the island. From Szentendre your way goes straight to the capital of Hungary, Budapest. Overnight in Budapest.

You can say good-bye to the capital or you can book several excursions in or around Budapest, for example excursion to Gödöllő (castle of the family Grassalkovich; trip to the Puszta).
